In June of 2025 I was welcomed to the Centre for the Social Study of Microbes (CSSM) at the University of Helsinki as a participant in their third PhD school.
Trying to explain what the CSSM is to my Finnish grandparents (both medical doctors) was not the easiest task, but did prepare me for writing my PhD thesis. Unlike most research clusters, the CSSM brings together a truly multi-disciplinary group of scholars around a shared emperical interest.
